It's a sort of diode through which a small point junction is formed among a metal wire & N-types semiconductor crystal. If a diode is set up with the wrong directionality, it's going to conduct just opposite the way in which you wish; it can prevent the current you do want, although making it possible for current to circulation from the wrong way.
